EMBARCADERO VIEWPOINT_

LIGHT SHOW AND HERITAGE REFLECTED IN THE TORMES

On sunny and bright days, visitors witness the specular vision, in inverse symmetry, of the cathedrals on the Tormes. It’s the heritage profile of the city (skyline) that the common imagination associates with the city-river binomial.

In the evening, one witnesses the lighting of the artistic illumination of the cathedrals, which transitions from a greenish light to a luminous clarity. Similarly, one can contemplate the Enrique Estevan Bridge, with a singular vanishing point towards the right bank of the river and, at night, access its luminous personality of iron and granite.

The river has changed its skin since the 1970s, due to the end of the activity of shepherds, swineherd, livestock fair traders, sand collectors, millers, tanners, or washerwomen, who kept the river free of vegetation. With a past devoid of trees, it currently presents riverside vegetation composed of cattails, reeds, willows, poplars, white poplars, ash trees, and alders.

The atmosphere is arboreal, both from the observation point and from the visual basin itself. It’s one of the most lively and dynamic scenarios as it reflects seasonal phenology (changes in nature), both visually and sonically.

VIEWS FROM THE PIER VIEWPOINT_

It receives this name for being the place where boats are rented, allowing an immersion in the natural environment of the Tormes.

The view begins with the Ceña del Muradal and del Arenal or Arrabal and the southern Flour Factory. The Bell gable of the Chapel of San Jerónimo, belonging to the Historic Building of the University of Salamanca (Major Schools), is perceived, giving way to the Tower and Dome of the New Cathedral and the Rooster Tower of the Old Cathedral. Between the cathedrals and the river, the Casa Lis and the Museum of Automotive History fit their buildings. The panorama ends with the Convent of San Esteban and the Enrique Estevan Bridge.
