LAS CLARAS VIEWPOINT_
LANDSCAPE OF ENCLOSURE: SILENCE AND ETERNITY
Landscape of Enclosure. Imagine that this is the only landscape you will contemplate for the rest of your life, it’s overwhelming.
Think about it, that this view is your only contact with the outside world… it’s frightening. Even so, enclosure was the decision of the women who wanted to live and die here, as they lie in the cloister, under the defeated holm oaks. Some were moved by faith, others by protection against unwanted marriages, also widowhood in times of battles. Enclosure as liberation.
They would know how to spell out each building, each cloud, each sun. They would call the swallows by name in summer and celebrate the arrival of storks to the city’s bell towers. The bells would be music, thunder, gratitude, the voice of the hours.
Now consider the non-existence of clocks, that light is your minute hand. What would go through your neurons? Inner life would be immense. How would their thoughts resonate in the silence? What would they say to themselves?
This tower was built in the 18th century to slightly alleviate the isolation. To see the world, people, processions to Santa Clara, the wind. What were the voices of so much absence? Beyond prayers, there would be sound atmospheres of daily life. How to cover so much silence? Contemplate quietly for a few minutes, no more.

VIEWS FROM LAS CLARAS VIEWPOINT_
Las Claras is the name given to the Convent of Santa Clara and names this viewpoint. From the tower, we have a view of the Cathedral Hill with the eastern view of the cathedral complex. To its right is the frontal view of the Towers of La Clerecía with the striking arches of the Pontifical University pavilion. Between both heritage buildings, the Anaya Palace can be glimpsed, over which the bluish dome of the Church of San Sebastián stands out. A green strip crosses the image corresponding to the garden space of Plaza de Colón.
