BEYOND THE TOWERS, LANDSCAPE OF STONE AND FEATHERS
EThe traveler’s eye is educated to seek towers, domes, and the arrangement of heritage stones that give body to the historical ensemble of Salamanca. Beyond this first layer of the landscape are the minimalist readings, there where the birds that fly over monuments and squares inhabit.
The Towers of La Clerecía are a sacred observatory of storks and their nests become sentinels of the dome of the transept. Large baskets of branches, stolen from the trees of the riverbank, form strata year after year, where the chicks grow up in an environment as aerial as it is ecclesiastical.
In March, a brief concert begins, of simple percussion, where the birds clap their beaks generating a known acoustic in the city. It’s the clattering, the onomatopoeia that gives name to their percussion, the communication that couples establish to recognize each other in encounters.
But there are more nests to look for, in the Church of San Martín, in the Anaya Palace… if we have patience they appear. The heritage is inhabited by wings, we must educate our gaze and listening to go beyond the first layer.

VIEWS FROM THE SCALA COELI VIEWPOINT_
From the Towers of La Clerecía we perceive a combined vision that expands 360º. The sum of the visions from all the windows and balconies puts us in contact with a visual basin to the 4 cardinal points.
To the North: the view escapes towards the Cloister of the Studies and the Pavilion of the Pontifical University, the baroque dome of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the gothic apse of the Convent of the Annunciation (the Úrsulas) and the Church of San Benito.
To the South: it allows us to observe the complete architecture of the Convent of San Esteban, as a scenic background of the Convent of Las Dueñas. The Anaya Palace is accompanied by the octagonal dome of the Church of San Sebastián. The Dome and Tower of the New Cathedral are preceded by the cedars of Anaya Square, the Sequoia of the Cloister of the Historic Building of the University of Salamanca, known as Escuelas Mayores, guarded, as a whole, by the bell gable of the Royal Chapel of San Jerónimo.
To the East: the foreground is dominated by the Patio of the Casa de las Conchas. In the background, the Facade of the City Hall of the Excmo. City Council of Salamanca in the Plaza Mayor, the bell tower of the Church of San Martín de Tours and the Tower of the Clavero next to the grove of the Plaza de Colón, with the Church of San Pablo in the background and the Tower of the Orellana Palace.
To the West: the entire focus is occupied by the baroque dome of La Clerecía, supported by the stone of Villamayor, where bluish copper covers the roof over the transept of the Church.
