TESTIMONIES OF BATTLES AND CALM: THE VAGUADA DE LA PALMA
We rise above the Vaguada de la Palma. Where calm now resides, there was the roar of explosions and cannons, of soldiery and confrontations. The War of Independence turned this small valley into a fortified scenario by Napoleonic troops. It’s hard to believe that it was a strategic place during the liberation of the city in 1812, in the so-called Battle of Salamanca. And yet, life went on…
The passage of centuries has led us to have before us the great cube of the Palace that exhibits the ashlar stones of Villamayor, the sandstone with which the civil and religious heritage of the city has been built. On the earthy canvas there are ocher tones, nuanced with rust. The building is surrounded from left to right by a large canopy, composed of a stand of birches, all its front bordered by Horse Chestnuts, and a slope of recumbent pines.
When the valley was crossed by the stream that shaped it, ash trees and willows were the thicket that covered the brief hollow. Today other groves return the place to its peaceful essence.

VIEWS FROM THE IRISHMEN'S VIEWPOINT_
The name of this viewpoint evokes the Irish College, an educational institution founded in the 16th century by the Irish community in Spain. Known as the Royal College of St. Patrick of Noble Irish, it was established in the city in 1592 with the purpose of training young Irish Catholics in a context of religious persecution in their homeland.
The heritage inventory we observe from this viewpoint covers the baroque dome of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the arches of the pavilion of the Pontifical University, the Domes and Towers of La Clerecía and the New Cathedral. We lower our gaze and the trees of the Vaguada de la Palma are located at the foot of the Congress and Exhibition Palace of Castilla y León, where we find the concentric pyramids of the monument to the Spanish Constitution, work of the sculptor Fernando Mayoral.
