SAN MARTÍN DE TOURS VIEWPOINT_
THE CITY SEEN THROUGH ITS OWN STONE SKIN
The San Martín de Tours Viewpoint is located on the rooftop of the church of the same name, in the heart of Salamanca’s historic centre. This space was not originally intended as a viewpoint; it emerged after renovation works on the church roof, during which a metal walkway was installed, allowing visitors to walk across the upper part of the building. The result is a little-known, intimate and surprising viewpoint that offers a different way of understanding the city.
The walk along the rooftop walkway allows visitors to discover the structure of the church itself and its integration into the urban fabric of the historic centre, at a point where the city’s monuments feel almost within arm’s reach. The experience combines heritage, architecture and an unusual sense of proximity compared to traditional viewpoints, making it a truly unique stop along the route.
From here, the experience is not that of a distant panorama, but of being immersed within the city’s own architecture. The height corresponds to rooftops, cornices and weather vanes, allowing Salamanca to be observed “from within”, with an unusual closeness to its major monuments and to the life unfolding in its historic streets.

VIEWS FROM THE SAN MARTÍN DE TOURS VIEWPOINT_
From the walkway, three main elements can be seen at very close range and at the same height. First, the belfry of the church of San Martín de Tours itself, where its stonework, openings and bell tower structure can be closely appreciated. Second, the Cathedral of Salamanca, with its towers, dome, pinnacles and the Torre del Gallo, all visible with an unusual level of clarity and proximity. Third, the Clerecía Towers, which appear in their entirety from this point, revealing their striking symmetry.
Between the Cathedral and the Clerecía, the perspective opens onto Calle Rúa Mayor, with its continuous line of rooftops, creating a highly characteristic urban scene of the historic centre. This same setting is also home to a rich birdlife: swifts in summer flying at high speed around the roof and entering the openings of the belfry, pigeons moving among the pinnacles and eaves, and occasionally storks passing overhead. In this way, the stone of the historic centre becomes a living habitat, shared between architecture and nature.
