MONTERREY VIEWPOINT_

ROOFS OF WISDOM: PERSPECTIVES OF A UNIVERSITY CITY

A sea of clay, where tiles are perfectly aligned waves. This is the abstract impression that impacts when looking out from this ducal promontory. The beauty of the crossing lines forms a chaotic, but harmonious and homogeneous perspective. The smooth textures of the walls are completed with the sinuosity of the roofs. Here the angles mark the waters of the roofs, some simple others double, which deposit the rain on the granite that supports them.

We find dozens of cells, which are windows, behind which are study and learning, a hive of knowledge. Compañía Street manifests itself as a gorge through which university life transits. When spring and summer exams arrive, students are accompanied by the sound of swifts and lesser kestrels. The birds mark with their flights their own, invisible lines that occupy above the roofs, the blue void that covers our days.

How many thousands of students from all centuries have walked these streets? What were their dreams? Where did their knowledge reach?

VIEWS FROM THE MONTERREY VIEWPOINT_

The Palace of Monterrey gives its name to this viewpoint that focuses the objective towards the south of the city, following the course of Compañía Street. In the foreground is the Convent of the Augustines and attached to it the College of Spain. Opposite it, on the other side of the street, the Convent of the Mother of God. As a scenic background, the great building of the Pontifical University, showing the arches of its pavilion; all protected by the Dome and Towers of La Clerecía.

The most meticulous eyes will not only see the Dome and Tower of the New Cathedral, but also a buttress and its flying buttress behind the Dome of the Church of San Sebastián.
