SANTO DOMINGO VIEWPOINT_

ETERNAL SALAMANCA, A TEMPORAL JOURNEY BETWEEN STONE AND ART

We live in a privileged century, where leisure time exists to explore the heritage of human art and knowledge. We witness a great timeline, which we can capture in images. It’s necessary to see each photograph as a chapter in Salamanca’s history, of the different eyes that created it.

Art identifies us and, from this enclave, allows us to read the narrative between stone and cypresses that engenders a feeling of serenity. Venancio Blanco’s sculptures call for attentive and patient observation, from a panorama loaded with green fragrance and freshness.

On the horizontal of the city, the human hand takes over the vertical, raising the cathedrals, the counterpoint of the landscape… This is how the artist thinks, and this is how we verify it from this angle next to the wall. The blue background is broken by the strokes of towers and pinnacles.

This is a corner to think about what is seen. To let oneself be carried away by the transcendence of the created city, of the one that exists and all those that existed beneath it. Under the skin of houses and dwellings are the roots of history and those who inhabited it.

If we think about what we’ve seen, we can try to imagine how this perspective was when the Convent of Santo Domingo was being built: the almost invisible Romanesque cathedral would begin to be eclipsed by the incipient Gothic cathedral. The monumental profile of the city would change forever and would found our imaginary of the cathedral Salamanca next to the Tormes and its bridges.
